Coffee with God: The Secret to Starting Your Day with Success

Why Coffee with God Changes Everything
Years ago, when my now-grown children were still little, I made a life-changing decision: I gave up one hour of sleep every morning to spend intentional time with God. I called it Coffee with God because, well, I’m a self-professed coffee addict—and my Bible always goes better with a steaming cup (or three).
This simple commitment became the anchor to my day. No matter how chaotic life was (and with little kids, it was), those quiet mornings grounded me in peace, focus, and faith.
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” – Psalm 5:3 (NIV)
What to Do During Coffee with God Time
Here’s how to structure your morning devotional time with purpose and presence:

1. Read the Bible
Start with the Word. My go-to is the NIV Study Bible, but the best Bible is the one you’ll actually read.
For deeper understanding, check out tools like:
- Bible Gateway – Multiple translations & reading plans
- YouVersion – Daily devotionals, highlights, verse images
- Bible Hub – Commentaries, Greek/Hebrew tools, concordance
Prefer traditional resources? Try a Bible Concordance, Bible Dictionary, or Interlinear Bible.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105

2. Pray – However You Can
Pray out loud, silently, or write your prayers. They can be eloquent or messy, whispered or wordless. God just wants you.
Talk to Him like you would your best friend—because that’s exactly who He wants to be.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” – Colossians 4:2

3. Journal Your Journey
A faith journal is a great way to track prayers, record scripture, reflect on lessons, or just pour out your heart.
Ideas for your journal:
- Gratitude list
- Daily scripture reflection
- Prayer list & answers
- Sermon notes
- Personal struggles & breakthroughs

4. Read a Devotional
Short on time? A 5-minute devotional can help center your thoughts.
You can find devotionals:

6. Do a Bible Study
Whether you’re going through a Bible study book or following along online, digging deeper into scripture is transformative.

Make It a Habit
Your morning doesn’t have to be rushed, distracted, or chaotic. When you start it with Jesus—and coffee—you create space for clarity, peace, and purpose.
So tomorrow morning, set your alarm a little earlier. Brew your favorite cup. Open your Bible. And spend some beautiful, sacred time in the presence of the One who loves you most.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33
