Sunday Devotional: Starting the Week with Jesus

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well."
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Reflection:

The rhythm of modern life is relentless. By Sunday evening, our minds are already racing with to-do lists, calendar alerts, and the pressure to perform. Culture whispers—sometimes shouts—that our worth is tied to our productivity. But in the quiet reflection of God’s presence, Jesus offers us a radically different beginning: “Seek first His kingdom.”

This isn’t just about checking a devotion off your list or squeezing in a prayer before work. Seeking God first is an intentional realignment of your heart and your focus. It’s choosing presence over panic, worship over worry.

When we make Jesus our starting point, everything else begins to shift into perspective. The unknowns of the week don’t disappear—but they lose their power to control us. Our fears don’t evaporate—but they are filtered through the confidence that our lives are held by a faithful God.

Seeking first is not about perfection. It’s about posture. It’s about waking up on Sunday—or any day—and saying, “Lord, this day is Yours. Lead me.” It’s surrendering the schedule, the pressure, the plans, and believing that His grace is already going before you.

So pause today. Breathe. Open your Bible. Speak with God as a child to their loving Father. Not because you have to, but because you get to. He is waiting—not with demands, but with peace.

Let this Sunday be your reset button. Not just the beginning of another week, but a fresh opportunity to put first things first—to seek Jesus above all.

Prayer:

Jesus, help me to seek You above everything else this week. Guide my heart to Your Kingdom first. Amen.
